盆菜 Basin Meal (Poon Choi)

What is your reaction if somebody ask u for a dinner on
盆菜 Basin Meal (Cantonese: Poon Choi)??

My 1st reaction is: ' huh? i thought Poon Choi is only for CNY eh?? now is only July...'
my dear:'not necessary Poon Choi must be eaten only during CNY geh.. this restaurant is very famous for Poon Choi..'
Me: 'Oh.... then ok lo.. but I never heard about the restaurant??'
my dear:' eh..I also never heard about it, brian said 1....'

okay, this was a short conversation between me & dear about a dinner outing.
I really thought that Poon Choi is a special dishes only available during CNY (juz like mooncake during Lantern festival, dumpling during Dragon Boat Festival)
(okay, although mooncake & dumpling are available during normal season due to commercial reason, they are still the special dishes, isn't it?)

Out of my expectation, there was a great crowd in the restaurants!
('s' due to they hv expanded another lot of business unit)
There wasn't any special occasion or event or anything special, juz a normal Saturday.
Twisted my mind: Poon Choi really can be eaten not only CNY oh........

The normal package of Poon Choi, which is meant to served for 10 - 12 people (RM238.00)
As you can see, it consists of Fish, Chicken, Duck, Prawn, few kinds of Vegetables & Mushroom, Pork & some unidentifiable side dish.

If you are a meal lover (carnovior?), i think you would luv it.
but if you are a normal omnivor like me,
taking so much meat at once is really really too much of satiety..
Generally d meal is tasty, juz that after every1 stir & stir d dishes, & all sauces mixed together, it got kinda salty & looks bit disgusting (better not posting up the photo).
we were starving to wait for a friend, so photo-shooting is only to overtake d starve-ness..

We accidentally stayed until there's no single customer leave beside us..

If you are interested wif this restaurant, here's d contact..

Korean BBQ~

Bon-Ga (Mont Kiara) Daorae (Kepong branch)

Juz had Korean BBQ as dinner for 2 continuous saturdays.
In some extent, I like Korean Food.
But it's not that I really *luv* it so much til wanna have it so frequently.
Juz tat so coincident that got frenz ajak, then juz go for it~
but then we can compare d 2 places I dined in..

(Photos at d left: Bon-Ga, Photos at d right: Daorae)

Atmosphere & Ventilation: Almost d same~ After dine in,everyone become so smelly..
Although there's smth looks like d odour absorber at Daorae, but seems not so effective too..

Free Flow sky Juice Free Flow Tea (taste = sky juice)

Re-fillable dishes~ generally have kimchi, fried pancakes, vatiery of vegetables etc

五花肉 pork meat (RM25+)
Another pork meat with different marination
(forgive me, I was too hungry to remember their names)

Both served by waiter / waitress to cooked d meat.
(maybe they worry we will overcooked d food as like those buffet style?)
but quite fast & good service in both restaurant

Free dessert
Ice kacang & watermelons Drink (taste mild sweet like barley) &
watermelons

the Ice kacang need to be stired well before consumed to have nice taste
(paiseh, we started without stiring :p)

There's some different dishes who ordered at dis 2 restaurants.
Bon-Ga: Pork, Pork, Kimchi Steamboat
Daorae: Pork, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Mee, Chicken, Pork
(which I forgot all those marination names at all, we juz simply order ^_^)
but those with marination & sauce tasted much better than those only pure meat

Other photos @ Bon-Ga:

Kimchi steamboat (RM35 for 4 persons)
taste bit spicy, I only able to finish d ingredients (i.e. vege, meat, 年糕 korean new year dish) but some soup leaved unfinished :p

Photos @ Daorae:

chicken of d day
Pork.. again

d 'cold' mee.. (not so used wif d coldnes..)
For me, the food served in both restaurant are yummy~
which could be recommended for next dine in~

Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant
(have many branches at KL i.e. Puchong, Damansara, Subang)
Address: 17-1-2, Jalan Metro Perdana 7, Taman Usahawan Kepong , KL.
Tel: 03-62578016

but there's 1 thing not satisfy me in the Daorae restaurant..
which they limit us to MUST order a number of dishes..
for e.g. if we hv 6 person dine in & wanna only order for BBQ dish (those meat) ,
we MUST order 5 dishes.
according to them, 1 BBQ dish is only for 1 person.
WTF, I was terribly annoyed.
If today 6 girls who eat very less dine in, for sure they can't finish d 5 BBQ dishes.
I think this rule is set up to prevent customer order few dishes
but consume a lot of d free side dishes.
But COME ON, those side dishes is juz low prize stuff like vege, ikan bilis etc,
how much a person could eaten???

I WONDER is that every korean restaurant hv rule like this?
(coz we didnt come to this issue in Bon-Ga
& Daorae didnt even wrote dis rule in their MENU!)
